To keep each dog’s well-being first and foremost, we integrate them fully into either a guardian family or our family.
Our adult dogs normally live with us, where they are part of our family and raised as such. Occasionally, we look for a local (within 3 hours) Guardian home as we know and respect our limits. Sometimes keeping genetic diversity to continue our focus on bettering the breed, means allowing a few dogs to live with local Guardian Homes where they remain intact, we still know and have a relationship with them and maintain all appropriate reproductive care while they are in a loving home that gives them the attention and family like they deserve. As they mature, we conduct health tests to determine if they will be a good fit for our breeding program. If they pass, we plan potential litters, with females coming to our home to breed /whelp and males visiting for breeding.
Throughout the dog’s time in our breeding program, our guardian families check in frequently with questions or concerns, they come visit, and we share responsibilities until the dog eventually retires. We retire our dogs early and in accordance with the recommendations of our vet and their annual health testing results. After, the dogs simply stay in their forever families and live wonderful lives!
Through this program, all of our dogs live in a family environment and are given daily love and attention. Our current guardian family always tells us their boy loves his trips to our home and we love having him!
Northern Great Danes Guardian Program
The details-
In this program, the Guardian Family has the opportunity to get a wonderful puppy from excellent lines for a reduced amount in exchange for working with us. We do compensate for each successful litter as well.
-You must live within 3hrs of Sac City, Iowa or be willing to meet each time.
- We handle the health testing, you handle the basic pet ownership things (vaccines, preventatives, etc).
-You must have a desire to be part of a responsible breeding program and have a passion for the breed, like we do!
-Males visit for breeding for a few days, females visit for breeding and come back for whelping. Guardian families are kept in the loop and are a honored part of our program!
-The dog stays in your home and once we pay for their neuter /spay, they become fully your pet!
